Cultural Mosaic-Aztec Empire

The Aztec empire’s culture is very old but rich. They had a variety of food that they ate. They ate maize (corn), beans, potatoes, tomatoes, and most importantly, their beloved chocolate. The Aztecs main language was the language of Nahuan. The Aztecs had four main social classes: the Pilli (noble) and the macehualli (commoners). The third one are the surfs, who were not slaves. And just below them, were the slaves who were the lowest social class. There were also slaves who were considered to be “well-treated”. The reason they thought this is because if you had enough money, you could purchase freedom. The Aztecs also believed that it didn’t take one or two gods to create the world; they believed that it took five gods to create the world. The Aztecs also played some games as well. One game was called ullamalizli, which was a famous ball game. Another game is called patolli, which was a unique type of board game. The game was a game of chance and skill, where you move your players and get across the board. Also, a third game that was played was called Totoloque, which was a very popular gambling game. The object of that game was to hit a target with gold pellets. People placed bets on who could hit the target the most efficiently. There were a couple things that were driving trade in the empire. One was that they needed new advances in transportation, so they needed to trade things for something that would help them improve their weak transportation. They had a lot of chocolate, so this could have help them by trading chocolate for improvements in transportation. It wasn’t all bad for the slaves, as the empire provided them with a chance to purchase freedom. However, the empire forced all citizens to pay a high tribute.
